STEPS FOR ASSISTANCE
- Complete the online application.
- Upon receiving the application, it is placed on the waiting list “apparent eligible” unless applicant is notified otherwise.
- When application nears the top of the waiting list, the applicant will receive a phone call to schedule an initial interview. If the applicant does not respond within 10 days, the application will be removed from the waiting list. The initial interview must be held at the Shelton Housing Authority property.
- After the initial interview and all information is verified, eligibility and suitability is documented and approved (or not approved.)
- When a home is available, the applicant will be contacted to see the apartment. A decision to accept or reject the apartment shown must be made within 24 hours of viewing. Upon acceptance, the perspective resident will sign an agreement to accept the unit. Release of information and background authorization is signed at this time. A security deposit is required at this time. A date is set for leasing.
- A leasing appointment will be held. The lease, along with all rules and participant’s responsibilities are explained.
- Part of the leasing appointment will be an inspection of the apartment.
- A welcome visit will be scheduled for 90-120 days after the lease effective date.
- Shelton Housing Authority will check criminal records.
